At the end of each semester and summer, we have The Big Gig at a local venue featuring student bands playing songs they chose.
Each band plays two songs that they’ve been practicing in group rehearsals for six weeks before the gig.
There is an extra fee of $140 per gig which covers six 1-hour band rehearsals and the performance fee.
We carefully select students from our studio that match in age, musical preference, instrumentation, experience, and synergy. If it’s not a perfect fit, we’ll try a different mix the next concert cycle.
That’s what we’re all about. If you have a friend in the program, or want to join at the same time as a friend, let us know and we’ll make sure to put ya’ll in a band together.
We host a Classical Recital and The Big Gig every May and December, with 6 weeks of band rehearsals leading up to The Big Gig.
We also have a Summer Gig every August for bands to get another gig before schools starts up.
You don’t have to perform if it’s not your goal, or if you just don’t want to. But if you’re just nervous, we’ll help you work through that.
One of our core values are ‘performances build confidence’, so you might be encouraged to participate.
The Big Gig experience incurs an additional $140 for the 6 one-hour rehearsals plus gig expenses.
The Classical Recital is a $25 one time fee to cover venue costs.
Each band plays two songs back to back, getting about 10-15 minutes of stage time at San Antonio’s most popular music venues.
Summer Camp costs $320 per camper. No registration fee, and a t-shirt is included!
Although our registration page shows that each week has a group size of 20, we actually divide them into groups of 4-6, depending on their age. They operate throughout the week in their band unit, rehearsing, songwriting, and doing all the other activities. We come together a couple times each day for group activities
We offer a camp every week in June and July from Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm.
We do not offer before or after care.
Campers will be divided into bands, pick songs, learn instruments, rehearse the songs to prepare for the Friday gig, receive daily mini-lessons, play musical games inside and outside, as well as receive group masterclass instruction featuring guest musicians and friends of the studio.
Check out the camp registration page for a detailed itinerary, but in short, we want to have fun playing music and making new friends, ideally sparking a musical passion that lasts a lifetime.
Glad you asked! Yes, there is. Each band will learn a couple songs throughout the week, and we’ll have a casual gig in the backyard Friday evening with all the families. If you’ve got a trip planned Friday, no worries, we’ll make it work.
Sign up by April 1st and receive our early bird special of $290 ($30 off!).
Ages 5 through 18 are encouraged to register. We split them into smaller according to their age.
Yep! That’s kind of what we’re all about. We’ll let them try a variety of instruments and likely play more than one at the Friday gig.
Your child might play any of the following instruments: piano, drums, guitar, bass, ukulele, Loog, synthesizer, violin/viola, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, flute, upright bass, organ, melodica… and a few more I’m probably forgetting.
We will! For these camps, we focus a lot on rhythms, chords, form, with a basic understanding of note names on piano, guitar, bass. We even teach drum notation, stage presence, and communicating musically with your band.
We use the same Music on Magnolia instructors to lead our camps. They’re the most qualified to teach these camps, which are essentially condensed versions of our semester long concert cycles, giving students opportunities to play a ton of instruments and learn songs they love.
Only because you asked. 🙂 We use Pixieset.com to share photos every day from camp, which you can download and share with the grandparents.
